Monday, May 9, 2022 – Arrive in Athens, transfer to The Amalia Hotel. Check-in after 3 pm. 2-hour walking tour of
The Plakka, followed by an early dinner at a local restaurant, within walking distance.
Tuesday, May 10, 2022 – Check out of the hotel and we are hosted on a 4-hour Athens City Tour, including a visit to the
Acropolis. Transfer to the airport for our domestic flight to Crete. Arrive in Crete and transfer to the Mistral Hotel. A
Welcome Meeting will be given by Vassilis before dinner to talk in more detail about the itinerary for your holiday.
Wednesday, May 11, 2022 - We begin the holiday with orange picking from the vast inland groves. Next stop Agia
Lake for some nature watching with time to relax, have a coffee, and enjoy stunning views of the White Mountains.
From here we visit the Botanical Gardens of Crete to discover hundreds of different types of fruit trees, herbs, flowers,
medicinal and ornamental plants in this uniquely landscaped park at the foot of the White Mountains. Our lunch will
be taken overlooking the valleys of olive and orange groves (www.botanical-park.com).
Thursday, May 12, 2022 - The day starts with a guided tour of a local olive oil soap-making studio before we travel
inland for a tour of the Karavitakis Estate Winery (www.karavitakiswines.com). Located in the tiny village of
Pontikiana, the estate has 150 acres of vineyards producing wines from local and international grape varietals. Our
lunch will be at a local taverna.
Friday, May 13, 2022 - Today begins with a one and a half-hour walk to the retreat of Milia in the foothills of the White
Mountains. Milia is an authentic 17th-century settlement that has been transformed into an eco-friendly tourist
complex in a location boasting exceptional rugged beauty. Placed among plane trees, chestnut trees, and mountain
tops, the area has a unique diversity. Here we enjoy lunch made from locally grown seasonal produce and made using
traditional cooking techniques (www.milia.gr). (The minibus will be available for non-walkers).
Saturday, May 14, 2022 - This signature excursion takes us to the beautiful sandy beach of Falasarna on the west
coast. Here, we have a few hours to swim, sunbathe, enjoy a refreshing drink and visit a nearby Hellenistic
archaeological site. Then, we drive south to the idyllic, beachside village of Sfinari where the Baladakis family will serve
a lunch of fresh fish, Kakavia (fish soup), organically produced vegetables, and plenty of village-style wine known as
Marouvas. The Baladakis family will encourage you to watch the food being prepared in the kitchen. Everything (except
the beer) is produced locally.
Sunday, May 15, 2022 - Today we indulge in Minoan history at the world-famous archaeological site of Knossos
Palace (15 euros payable locally). See the story behind Sir Arthur Evans excavations at the beginning of the 20th
Century and wonder over the 4,000-year-old Minoan artifacts that he discovered. We then visit the Archaeological
Museum in the island's capital of Heraklion. There is no dinner at the hotel today, so we shall enjoy a sumptuous meal
at a taverna situated on the historic Venetian Harbour in Chania.
Monday, May 16, 2022 - Prepare to be “wowed” with a visit to the Ancient Olive Tree of Vouves which is around 3,000
years old and the oldest in the world! After this, we visit Biolea, a family-owned company specializing in the artisan
production of olive oil using millstones and presses (www.biolea.gr). From here, we drive on to the beautiful gorge of
Deliana to see the stunning rock faces, endemic plant life, and varied birdlife. A packed lunch will be provided.
Tuesday, May 17, 2022 - A free day! We will be offering an optional tour to Santorini. Details and pricing TBA.
Wednesday, May 18, 2022 - An exclusive day trip to the village of Loutro on the south coast which is only accessible
by boat. The day starts with a drive to historic Sfakia in the south made famous by the evacuation of Allied Troops
during the Battle of Crete. Our private boat will take us the short journey along rugged coastline to secluded
Sweetwater Bay for a swim in the Libyan Sea, sunbathe, and refreshments. From here, we move further along the coast
passing dramatic cliffs and caves to the picturesque village of Loutro for a long, leisurely lunch at a waterside taverna.
Thursday, May 19, 2022 - Your last day will be a relaxed affair within the hotel grounds. We invite you to join Vassilis
for a wine-tasting lunch of traditional Greek cuisine and share in our passion for Cretan and Greek wines. Lunch is long
and leisurely and will be followed by a cooking class in the hotel kitchens where you will make stuffed tomatoes,
stuffed peppers, and Cretan small cheese pies.
Friday, May 20, 2022 – Departure day – sad to see it end! Transfer to the airport in Crete for our domestic flight to
Athens. Then, we board our plane for Canada
